Winter Rose Quartz Wedding Inspiration

Tuesday, December 8, 2015

Normally winter isn’t the season I yearn for, but looking at these shots from our winter woods shoot reminded me of the magic that comes with a crisp, snowy day! I created menu cards + chair signage inspired by music lyrics, against the backdrop of vintage china + ethereal December florals.

Serendipitously William Parkinson Events’ concept celebrates the fabulous Pantone color of the year: serenity + rose quartz. {Read more about that on Pantone’s website!}. I love the edgy yet soft choice they made for next year’s color forecast, and can’t wait to see how it influences the season’s wedding trends.

Bonus: This was featured on Inspired By This Blog in their winter inspiration wrap-up!

Bright Boho Persian Wedding Shoot Featured on Wedding Chicks

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

If you know me then you know of my love for all things bright + bohemian, so getting to incorporate both into a styled wedding shoot made me a very happy girl. Seeing it featured on The Wedding Chicks Blog was the icing on the cake!

The main inspiration was Persian wedding traditions, while mixing in some playful boho details. I was fascinated by the intricate Persian textile patterns, which I incorporated into the envelope liner. I pulled shapes from the pattern for the rest of the suite + other paper details, like the menu cards and packets of lavender for guests to toss.

Featured in CT Bride: Shades of Grey Styled Shoot

Thursday, August 7, 2014

I’ve got another great feature to share; this time it’s for the sexy Shades of Grey wedding photo shoot we did with Amy Champagne Events + BSC Photo. It’s currently gracing the pages of the Fall/Winter issue of Connecticut Bride Magazine, on newsstands now!

Amy had a great concept, which was a “grey tie wedding” . Black tie’s sexier cousin, it’s edgy, modern + sleek.

My penchant for bright colors was put to the test here, as I stuck with only grey tones. Restraint can sometimes be the hardest thing as a designer, but that was the only way to go with this concept. We also played around with mixed materials, including leather for an offbeat envelope “sleeve” and a uniquely shaped menu card.

Belles Lettres Calligraphy brought it all together with the elegant yet masculine calligraphy on both.

We also tried to find ways to incorporate gobo lighting. I set the type for a projected menu that Shindig Lighting executed flawlessly in the space.

We created flat escort cards to complement the invitation suite, along with place cards that wrapped around the champagne flute stem.

Lovely Cakes created a plethora of grey confections. Such a statement this dessert table makes!

BSC Photo proves the old saying: a picture is worth a thousand words.

Lastly, some intimate couple moments to close the show.

Featured on Borrowed & Blue: Rock & Roll Photo Shoot

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

I’m so excited to finally share this edgy Rock & Roll photo shoot we did last fall, as it’s now featured on Borrowed & Blue Greenwich! When Ashley Douglass approached me about this one, I was pumped. I’m crazy for music + lyrics, and love pushing the envelope (pun intended) when it comes to design. This shoot let me do that in spades, and I loved her vision. Ashley Therese Photography captured it all impeccably, per usual!

rock & roll wedding invitation suite

I played around with color blocking, asymmetry + reflections on this project. I kept in mind the shapes of CDs and records (yes, back in the day that’s how we got our music!), and opted for an oversized square invite. I also created a custom envelope with sparkle liner.

The Keeler Tavern Museum in Ridgefield, CT was a great neutral backdrop for our brimming-with-details shoot.

I love how Ashley + Alison from The Plumed Serpent styled the bride in a sweet gown but kept a bit of edge with her leather jacket. Truly a breath of fresh air!

I couldn’t do this shoot without including some lyrical quote signage. These always make for great photo-ops at wedding receptions.

The linens from Nuage Designs had a serious wow factor. When it comes to rock & roll, sometimes you just have to go for it. Silver, sequins, chevron, houndstooth…why not?

I got to play my part in the tablescape with the round menus, which sat on top of vintage 45 records inside the plates.

Featured on Oh Lovely Day: Eco-Friendly Photo Shoot

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

I’m so excited to finally share this gorgeous eco-friendly styled shoot we did last spring, which was recently featured on Oh Lovely Day.

Amy Champagne was the creative force behind the entire shoot, and was really committed to being green. So much so, I half-expected her to arrive in a car that was running on granola + in clothes she had sewn out of old burlap table runners. But alas, my friend managed to stay true to sustainability while creating a look that was so fresh + pretty!

Little Random Details created organic soaps as favors, a great take-home for guests. And check out the naturally growing florals from the garden at the Keeler Tavern Museum. Breathtaking!

Paper is a big part of weddings, so being green presented a fun challenge. The invitation suite was printed on recycled stock, and I used seeded paper as the backer for the invite card.

I created corner “anchors” of raffia that the invite slipped off of, so as not to compromise the seeds sleeping inside! The invite was printed on glassine paper which let the natural texture of the seeded paper show through. The final piece was a card directing guests to a wedding website for instructions on planting the paper.

Amy had discovered that cut green onions could be planted + regrown, so we used those as the escort cards. TIP: This is a great way to add color to your tablescape!

View More: http://ashleytheresephotography.pass.us/keelertavernshoot

The bottom of each menu had instructions for planting the onions, which I perforated to create a 2-in-1 card. Easy for guests to take home the care instructions!

Erica O’Brien gave us another jaw-dropping cake, and I made my debut in hand-lettering on chalk. Not sure I’ll be adding this to my repertoire JUST yet, though :).

Featured in WellWed Hamptons: Renaissance Photo Shoot

Wednesday, January 8, 2014

Today I’m excited to finally share our Renaissance-inspired wedding styled shoot, recently featured in WellWed Hamptons Magazine.

Well Wed Feature

This past February I worked with Ashley Douglass and a bunch of talented vendors to bring this concept to life.

I tried to channel the renaissance era, while keeping the ideas modern + accessible to brides. Leather details were found throughout the shoot, including a wonderfully worn piece of scrap leather that served as a “belly band” for the invitation suite.

But my favorite detail was the scroll menus I created. Wax seal + glue gun + parchment paper  = fine DIY fun.

Check out all the great shots below, courtesy of my man Bruce Plotkin.

Modern Wedding Photo Shoot: Featured in CT Bride!

Monday, July 15, 2013

Today I’m excited to finally share our modern houndstooth and cobalt blue wedding photo shoot, which was featured on the cover of Connecticut Bride Magazine! As I look through the photos, I’m reminded of the amazing energy felt throughout the day of shooting. When you put together a stellar team of vendors, magic happens.

The day began with hair and makeup prep by the fabulous Larissa Lake team, and Amy Champagne was on from sunrise to sunset making sure every last detail was perfect!

Fleurescent created the florals (I’m such a sucker for anemones!) and I complemented her table arrangements with some paper signage goodness, including table number and a custom banner.

Wedding chair signs are some of my favorite things to make. They are a simple way to add a personal touch, and make for a fabulous photo-op during the reception!

Donna from Little Random Details created deliciously pretty sweets, including a full candy bar. Erica from Erica O’Brien Cake Design also provided a gorgeous confection with gold + floral notes.

Amy worked with Party Rental Ltd. and put together the tablescape.

Brooke from Brooke Allison Photo took such incredible photos inside the penthouse and outside around the Yale campus. (It’s also worth mentioning she braved the cold with our bride + groom!)

For the invitation suite I kept a classic layout, but added a pop of modern with the mixed type, bold colors + houndstooth liner. I had these printed on a gloss cardstock then finished with a clear dry toner to give it that extra sheen. Thanks to Whoa Nellie for the amazing calligraphy!

Some fun paper detail shots, including the menu card I created…

Here’s one of our favorite pictures from the day. You can plan as much as you want, but it takes a good eye (and a willingness to sneak into a fenced-in area) to capture moments like this one.

It was an honor to work with such talented vendors on this shoot, and seeing it in print is just gravy.  Be sure to pick up your copy today!
