Today on the blog is Sarah + George’s classic watercolor Coveleigh Club wedding! I was the stationery designer for George’s sister’s wedding, and I always love working with families again. Not only does it tell me I had a very happy client, but I feel even more closely tied to the family and their story.

Custom Watercolor Crest

The beginning of their wedding paper story was their beautiful custom watercolor crest.

Their wedding took place at the Coveleigh Club, a gorgeous historical Georgian mansion with scenic views of the Long Island Sound. And the oceanfront feel, along with the abundant hydrangea around the property, were at the forefront of their wedding design + crest. Their colors were different tones of blue, with touches of pink + greenery. The suite featured a custom watercolor map of their weekend event locations, and a simple envelope liner to infuse that classic elegance into the suite’s design.

Wedding Invitation Wording + Etiquette

Sarah + George’s wedding as postponed once due to COVID, but they also made the decision to significant pare down the number of guests at their reception, as well as livestream their ceremony for those not comfortable coming at all. It is an incredibly difficult task to find appropriate wording for essentially uninviting guests. but I helped them execute the information and remind guests that it was about safety for their loved ones. I found more than ever, during the pandemic this past season, couples valued the component of my services where I helped with etiquette and wording. It was new territory for everyone, but having someone who haas experience in years of wedding adventures brings a very helpful level of expertise :). On top of the “change of plans” card, I designed a change the date for them at no charge, and we managed to find some humor in the situation!

Family Photo Display

One of my favorite details of their wedding wasn’t the fanciest or most creative, but had the most heart. Sarah wanted to create a “Legacy of Love” collection, a display of photos of their family’s wedding photos. It included multiple generations on both sides, allowing their guests to take a journey with them and see the examples of love that led them to this moment. It was an experience for guests, which is always what I strive to create with my paper goods.

Sarah + George’s classic style was reflected in their attire, but I loved the pop of color from Sarah’s shoes! They began their day getting ready at their family homes, and met at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye.

Watercolor Wedding Day-of Stationery Details

I carried through elements of their watercolor crest into their day-of items. When there are actual florals on each table, you want to use watercolor florals sparingly + thoughtfully, otherwise you run the risk of clashing. Instead I focused more on color + texture, and created a big watercolor floral moment on the seating chart, which only had greenery around it. When guests sat down, they had a gorgeous blue menu with a custom-calligraphed capiz shell attached with seafoam green silk ribbon. I scoured Etsy to find the perfect hue, because the little details matter!

The last paper detail was the iconic sparkler send-off. We had a sign with instructions plus custom monogram matchbooks which also served as favors. The sparkler is always a fun moment for guests, and makes for unforgettable couple photos at the end of the night!
