Sometimes there are weddings that just put a smile on your face. The blush + blue Coveleigh Club wedding of Kelsie + Austin was full of charming, elegant details, and everything felt effortless. Kelsie had a great vision for her wedding. With the help of the fabulous Amy Champagne Events I was gifted a bride who trusted me to bring that vision to life.
Most of my couples have great style. Their wedding is a way to share that with their loved ones, but they are smart enough to know that translating good style into wedding stationery is nuanced. I love the partnerships that are created with my clients but giving me a well thought-out design, but letting me do the translating onto paper.
I began working with them on their save the dates (I always prefer to collaborate with couples on all their wedding stationery, so we can tell their story from start to finish!). Truly, though, the first stage was the custom crest. They didn’t want my usual watercolor look, but instead something a bit more formal + clean. I enjoyed the creative challenge of designing something a bit outside of my creative comfort zone!
But I rarely like to unveil a couple’s monogram or crest with their save the dates. I always say custom save the dates are a peek behind the curtain of your wedding paper look. So to keep things simple but interesting, I focused on texture. The save the dates were printed on blush handmade paper, which gave their guests a tactile experience.
TIP: Handmade paper can be expensive, but if you do it for the save the date you need only invest in one card vs. an entire suite.
When it was time to design the wedding invitation suite, I got a huge boost of creative inspiration! I wanted to continue that theme of texture, but amplify it. The invitation suite cards had deckled edges, then the entire thing was wrapped with an asymmetrical fold in soft blue vellum with white ink. The final piece is then tied together with hand-dyed velvet ribbon. I infused color with colored paper for the details cards, and blush envelopes. No detail was overlooked when creating this suite!
